Dr. Cami Hurst (she/her) is a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT-S), a Certified Sex Therapist (CST), and holds a Ph.D. in Clinical Sexology. She is determined to make it easier to talk about sexual difficulties. She is committed to making medically accurate and evidence-based treatments for sexual issues more accessible. Her comfortable personality weaves compassion, empathy, and humor into historically difficult conversations.
Cami has operated a private practice specializing in relationships and sexuality since 2019. She is the founder and current president of ISHP (Idaho Sexual Health Professionals) which is a multidisciplinary association for all who work in sexual health to receive continuing education as well as to advocate for sexual health issues across the state of Idaho. Dr. Hurst is passionate about sexual health education and offers free sex education through a podcast passion project called “Sex Therapy 101”.
While some sexual difficulties have biological origins, many have psychological and relational origins. Even the biological difficulties can then cause psychological and relational difficulties. The way that one part of our lives can impact another part of our lives is why it’s so important to work with an expert who is trained in the complexity of relationships and sexual health.

I am therapist rooted in AAMFT principles, systems theory, and the biopsychosocial model. I adopt a warm, casual, and collaborative approach that emphasizes medical accuracy and best practices. I operate from a place of compassionate curiosity and non-judgment. I value the development of personal power and internal authority.
For couples my approach is rooted in Bowenian Theory and Differentiation. Differentiation is the balance of attachment and individuation in any relationship. It works towards a healthy and separate “me” and a healthy and connected “us”. I have training in the Couple’s Development Model, Relational Living Model, and Emotion Focused Therapy. I believe there is an opportunity in our relationships to continue to grow and mature as individuals. Appreciating our partner's differences make for long-term fulfilling partnerships - not striving for sameness.
For sex therapy, my approach is rooted in the Biopsychosocial Model. This is a thoughtful consideration of the biological, psychological, and social dimensions of sexual health and how they influence one another. I believe that sexuality is part of our wholeness. My focus is on creating mutual pleasure and sexual health within your own value system.
For trauma work, we first attempt CBT principles (still the most reliable trauma treatment per the APA). Many clients have tried CBT and prefer moving into EMDR work. EMDR is a trauma specific intervention that targets the emotions and beliefs that were created by past traumatic or difficult experience(s). For those wanting to try something else, I will be offering KAT (ketamine assisted therapy) in late 2025 after I have completed my PAPT Certification. All three are evidence-based trauma interventions.
